Key Stage 3:
 

Year 7:
 

Intent: It is our intent that Year 7 students become safe and confident users of ICT and to be critical thinkers, who understand the digital world. The topics covered will also support their learning across the curriculum and prepare them for lifelong learning.

 

Year 8:
 

Intent: The Year 8 curriculum is designed to build on knowledge gained in Year 7 and give students the opportunity to learn how to use the basics of a procedural programming language.  Students are also given the opportunity to code in basic html by designing and developing their own webpages.

Impact:  By the end KS3 several key knowledge strands will be embedded to allow for deep learning and preparation for continuation in key stage 4 & 5. These include the confidence and the ability to explore applications and to work independently to complete a project.  Students will have used at least 3 different programming languages to solve problems of varying complexity, they will also understand that a computer system is made up entirely of binary and be able to explain how these binary digits can be used to represent a variety of different things.  They will also be able to explain how a variety of different computer systems work on a hardware level including various networks.

Intent: in Year 9 & 10, it is our intent that students develop an understanding of the fundamental concepts and principles of computer science.  Students will analyse problems in computational terms through a practical problem-solving experience.

Impact: By the end of KS4 Student will be able to analyse problems in computational terms through practical experience of solving such problems, including designing, writing, and debugging programs.  They will be challenged to think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically, and critically.  Students will be able to understand the components that make up digital systems, and how they communicate with one another and with other systems.  They will also be able to apply their mathematical knowledge to solve problems in Computer Science.



Key Stage 5:

Intent: In Year 12, it is our intent that students continue to build on their knowledge from KS4.  Students will focus on building their programming ability, and theoretical knowledge of data structures, systematic problem solving, and the theory of computation.

 

In Year 13, it is our intent that students continue to study the design, development and analysis of software and hardware used to solve problems in a variety of businesses, scientific and social contexts.

Implementation: 

Impact: By the end of KS5 students will understand the core academic principles of computer science. Classroom learning is transferred into creating real-world systems through the creation of an independent programming project.  Students will develop their technical understanding and their ability to analyse and solve problems using computational thinking.

Digital Information Technology

Subject Name: Digital Information Technology

Department Vision & Ethos:


Key Stage 4:

Intent: In Year 9, it is our intent that students will develop their understanding of what makes an effective user interface and how to effectively manage a project.  Students will use this understanding to plan, design and create a user interface.

 

In Year 10, it is our intent that students will understand the characteristics of data and information and how they help organisations in decision making. Students will use data manipulation methods to create a dashboard to present and draw conclusions from information.  Students will also explore how organisations use digital systems and the wider implications associated with their use.

Creative Media Production

Subject Name: Creative Media Production

Intent: In Year 9, it is our intent that students develop an understanding of media practitioners’ work, and how techniques and technology are used to contribute to the creation of media products.

 

The Year 10 curriculum is designed to develop practical media production skills and techniques. Students will have the opportunity to specialise in audio/moving images.

BTEC L3 National Diploma in Information Technology

Subject Name: BTEC L3 National Diploma in Information Technology

Department Vision & Ethos:

Intent: In Year 1, it is our intent that students will study the relationship between hardware and software, managing and communicating information and data, and the principles of designing and developing digital technologies and processes to support organisations.

 

In Year 2, students are given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in IT focusing on, cyber security, and forensic management as well as computer programming.

Impact: By the end of KS5 students will hold a broad knowledge of ICT/Computer Science concepts through development of their theoretical subject knowledge and work on practical projects/tasks. They will also have development confidence and skills in using a variety of software applications. The knowledge and skills developed will provide sufficient range of skills relevant to the IT sector and/or higher education.

BTEC L3 Extended Diploma in Digital Media Production

Subject Name: BTEC L3 Extended Diploma in Digital Media Production

Department Vision & Ethos:

Intent: In Year 1, students will consider how different media representations are constructed by media producers to create meaning, messages, and values.  Students will be given the opportunity to apply this knowledge and understanding when designing and creating a digital game of their own.

 

In year 2 students will consider the commissioning process and how media producers respond to clients by generating ideas using a range of different skills.
